We are home from a lovely adventure in Westcliff. I swallowed the last pills and have a week off from the stomaching of pills...well, chemo pills. We are washing clothes, making lists, and getting the big girls ready to run away to Eagle Lake Camp. Each week we have sought and found life, big life in the little and big moments together.

There is such tenderness in the broken places. I feel uniquely blessed when I’m witness to the truth of the heart of another unclothed, open, vulnerable. It’s the most beautiful, most stunning in life. Sharing the tears of another is the greatest joy I have known in my life. When someone reveals a hidden shame or brokenness, I feel witness to the miracle of grace seeping into the hard cracks of living in fear and shame.

Years ago my dear Mickey offered me advice at the just right moment. That advice took deep roots and has followed me through my parenting. Mickey was my greatest champion of nursing my babies. When I felt weary and wanted to stop I would call her for her encouragement.

But she told me children moved from nursing to nussing, as she called it. She explained that even when the special time of nursing stops, the gentle time with mama needs to continue. When Jason and I have our special places to sit and read, my chair is always the oversized one. Simply put, it has space for each of my babies to sit close. And this close time never ends.

You all made me weep yesterday, big tears of heartbreak and gratitude. I asked for scripture and you showed up like a boss. I clung to your verses, your prayers, you kind thoughts, quotes, and encouragement yesterday. I needed them. Every single comment was read multiple times. My dear friend Autumn who calls me her Anne of Green Gables and she is my Diana, told me she loved her Anne and signed it Diana-I was utterly undone in the middle of Bonefish.

I found this sweet little book at the Goodwill Outlet in Denver. I believe I paid a quarter for this gift. Last week I pulled it out and started reading it to the kids. It’s stunning; it speaks to my heart, its deep truths are convicting. I’m not even through the book and I’m deeply moved by the words.
